Cosmetic surgery comes with a lot of risks that are now being avoided through the invention of less invasive procedures. While cosmetic surgery is still needed to perform a lot of procedures, it isn’t necessary anymore when it comes to many of the things that only going under the knife could solve. Women are certainly taking advantage of this. More and more surgeons are being asked to shin a light versus cut with a knife. It has caused a lot of plastic surgeons to complete certification courses on some of these innovative procedures. Some of the cosmetic problems that can be fixed with lasers include:

  • Skin tightening
  • pigmented lesions
  • veins
  • Acne and scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkle

Lasers are primarily used by plastic surgeons to correct issues with facial skin. Before, facial skin issues could only be fixed through injections and surgery. Acne scars were almost impossible to get rid of. Pigmented lesions are unsightly, and it used to mean surgery to remove them. Now, it only takes a quick session with a laser to get these guys to go away for good.

Vascular Lesions

Unsightly veins are removable by opening up the leg and taking them out. The blood will naturally redirect itself to a larger vein in the area. This isn’t necessary with laser procedures; however, the main concept remains. There are several different types of procedures that your doctor will recommend based on the type of veins you have and the extent of the problem. Your physician may ask you to lose weight first. This can improve the problem. Here are a couple of the innovative vascular lesion removal procedures that involve lasers instead of risky surgery, and why women are choosing them:

Endovenous Ablation Therapy

This procedure does not require general anesthesia like surgery does. A small cut is created and a tube is placed into the leg. A laser is then used to create heat. The heat that’s placed into the leg kills the veins that are visible. This procedure does have some invasive element to it; however, it is almost painless. Unlike surgery, the patient can get up and walk out of the office. Besides the small cut, there is absolutely nothing that needs to heal.

Laser Therapy for Veins

This is an acceptable treatment for small veracious veins. There is no cut required. It is so painless that no numbing agent needs to be used during the procedure. For such small veins, surgery was impractical as there were operating room and anesthesiologist costs. Now, a quick procedure that can be done in a doctor’s office is all that’s needed.

More Skin Issues Besides Veins

The most common procedure women have with lasers is vein removal and laser resurfacing of the facial skin. Doctors first noticed that facial skin could be improved through the use of lasers when wrinkles were removed along with acne scars back when they were the only treatment for scars. Botox requires injections that have to be repeated. A facelift is extremely invasive, comes with risks, and has a high cost. Laser resurfacing burns in the skin in a controlled manner that is completely safe. It helps the skin produce collagen and burns off the layers of skin that were affected by the wrinkle.

Is Laser Treatment Better than Plastic Surgery?

Not all procedures can be done through the use of lasers. The vast majority of surgeries that are being replaced with lasers are the ones that used to erase veins and facial skin issues. Procedures such as breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, and tummy tucks still need to be done under the knife. For women who are looking for facial enhancement, lasers are just as effective as surgeries that used to be the only option. While a scar is such a permanent sounding word, they aren’t all that permanent anymore. Whether laser therapy or surgery is right for you depends on what you want to accomplish.
